Voice from the South- Resisting Together

VOICES FROM THE SOUTH
An E-Bulletin from SOA WATCH's Latin American Team

Greetings from the South! A year and a half ago, in these lush, green Andes mountains, a group of 50 people came together from 19 countries at the SOA WATCH South-North Encuentro to dream and scheme together about a world without torture, without repression, where mothers and spouses will no longer disappear into the night to never return. Stories, tears and laughter were shared, and strategies outlined to close the School of the Americas, the source of so much of this pain. A clear path emerged: that of working together South and North, to say NO MAS SOA, NO MORE MILITARIZATION.

Today we write to you from opposite ends of the 4,000-mile Andes mountains that span this continent, from Santiago, Chile and Barquisimeto, Venezuela, where our two SOA WATCH Latin America offices are located. We are delighted to be bringing you our first monthly e-bulletin, Voices from the South, a forum to share the voices of those who are resisting militarization and promoting a culture of peace.

SOMOS UNA AMERICA! From the North Pole to Patagonia, We are One America,

Abrazos, Pablo, Marlin and Lisa, SOA WATCH "Equipo Sur"
